At Light Years School, we firmly believe that every child has the potential to thrive in a nurturing and supportive environment. Our approach to learning is grounded in five fundamental foundations that inspire and empower our students.

At the heart of our approach is a strong sense of ambition. We have high expectations for every child and do not place limits on what they can achieve. Our curriculum is carefully designed to build confidence and self-esteem, helping pupils to flourish academically, socially and emotionally, and to believe in their own potential.

A key strength of our provision is our multi-sensory approach to teaching. We recognise that children learn in different ways, and by engaging multiple senses, we support pupils to access learning more effectively and retain knowledge more securely. This ensures that all learners, including those with additional needs, can fully participate and succeed.

We place strong emphasis on helping pupils remember and build on what they have learned. Regular opportunities to revisit and recall knowledge are planned across the curriculum, supporting pupils to strengthen their understanding over time and develop secure learning foundations.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and is carefully sequenced so that knowledge and skills build progressively. Through our half-termly “Curriculum Connection Drivers”, pupils experience an immersive, coherent curriculum that helps them make meaningful links between subjects and understand the purpose of their learning.

Reading is at the heart of everything we do. We actively promote a love of reading through rich and varied texts, recognising that reading is the golden thread that underpins learning across the curriculum and supports both academic success and personal development.

Above all, our curriculum is designed with each child in mind. It is adaptive, inclusive and responsive, ensuring that all pupils are supported at their individual starting points and prepared for the next stage of their education and a successful future.
