Curriculum at a Glance
At Light Years School, our curriculum is designed to be both inspiring and carefully structured. Each half term is built around an engaging “Curriculum Connection Driver” – a central topic that brings learning together and helps children make meaningful links across subjects.
Our curriculum follows an interconnected approach, where knowledge is deliberately sequenced and revisited to support children in building secure understanding over time. This ensures that learning is cumulative, coherent, and enables pupils to know more, remember more, and do more. We are guided by the principle that clear curricular alignment is essential to provide purpose, vision and direction (Turner, 2023), and this underpins all aspects of our curriculum design.
Through our carefully planned topics, we aim to ensure that all pupils understand the purpose of their learning. Our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, develop rich knowledge and skills, and inspire children through engaging and memorable learning experiences. As a result, pupils are supported to make strong connections, deepen their understanding, and achieve ambitious outcomes.

The school’s curriculum is highly ambitious and carefully shaped around pupils’ needs and interests. A focus on holistic development does not detract from the broad and detailed subject curriculum that pupils experience.
